Photoshop is the worldwide market leader among image editing software. Along with its classical use for photography and web design, it is also an important 3D-modeling tool. In architectural terms, it can be said that Photoshop is used in all workflow phases. This volume is the first handbook for architects. It features solutions for typical everyday tasks and helps planners, architects and students achieve satisfying results with the help of Photoshop software. It offers practical step-by-step tutorials for quick improvement.

This volume collects the most significant results of the European research Project called "SPARK", whose aim was to develop new cognitive architectures and new sensing-perceiving-moving artefacts, inspired by the basic principles of living systems and based on the concept of "self-organization" in complex systems generating spatial temporal patterns. The book is organized in three parts. Part I "Principles of insect perception" reports a thorough survey of the state of the art in perception for action. The central Part II "Cognitive Models" describes new approaches to attain high cognitive capabilities in roving robots, for which detailed Structures are still lacking, even referring to insect brain. Some of the models introduced rely on the insect-inspired parallel sensory-motor pathways, others exploit the emergence Spatial-temporal Patterns (used as perceptual states) arising in non linear Reaction-Diffusion Equations, some others build upon the neural networks modelling Stick Insect locomotion. The last part of the book Part III "Software/Hardware cognitive architecture and experiments" is related to the implementation of the proposed cognitive models on a software /hardware FPGA-based architecture embedded on wheeled and legged robots. Multimedia material, related to the experiments presented in the book, is available on the SPARK web page: www.spark.diees.unict.it.

The Steenwyck family – Hendrick the Elder and his son Hendrick the Younger, together with the latter’s wife Susanna Gaspoel, represent a remarkable group of artists, successful and well regarded in their own time, but now somewhat overlooked. They were among the first artists to concentrate on making use of the science of perspective to produce idealised and meticulously painted architectural scenes, enhanced by elegant figures, sometimes executed by artists of the quality of Jan Brueghel I, as the basis of a new style of painting. Spanning the turbulent period from the late 16th to the mid 17th centuries they succeeded in producing a new art form that found favour with connoisseurs in much of Europe, including the court of King Charles I in London, where Steenwyck the Younger worked for over 20 years. This book, the first ever written on the Steenwycks, covers the work of this talented family and explores the social, economic and religious conditions which help to explain the appeal of this elegant new style to their patrons. The catalogue raisonné covers the known works of the artists and contains detailed provenances and bibliographic references. The book contains a number of illustrations, including a number which will be barely known except by specialists in the subject. (brepols)

The book of Acts contains a strong geographical component. Yet readings of Acts typically ignore or marginalise geography's contribution to the construction of the narrative's theology. In this book Matthew Sleeman argues that Jesus' ascension into heaven is foundational for establishing the 'spatiality' of Acts, showing that the narrative's understanding of place and space is shaped decisively by Christ's heavenly location. Drawing on recent advances in geographical theory, Sleeman offers a 'spatial' interpretation that expands our vision of how space and place inform the theological impulses of Acts. Presenting a complement to conventional 'temporal' readings of Acts, he sheds new light on the theology of the book, and suggests new ways of reading not only Acts but also other New Testament texts. Sleeman's work combines innovative biblical scholarship with accessible and informative geographical analysis, and is suitable for those with research and teaching interests in human geography or biblical studies.
